CASE STUDIES

Project Brief: Assignment for my COMD 300 class: Publication Design - The Book Object, led by Robin Mitchell Cranfield.
Theme: Rete (Net): Public Objects as a Network.
Each piece is woven together by a shared desire to examine the unseen connections and patterns that shape our digital and physical world.
Goal: To meet the requirements of the theme of Rete (Net), while also satisfying my own personal goals of creating an interactive and educational children's book.
Structure and Theme: Accordion Style & Salmon Lifecycle
Accordion design of the book has no binding; therefore no end or beginning.
This interactive format emphasizes the interconnectedness of life and the vital role salmon play in sustaining their environment, offering a hands-on way to understand nature's cycles and the importance of giving back to the world around us.

Salmon Journey:
Salmon Journey explores the cyclical life of a salmon and their ecological impact on the environment.
With visuals hand-crafted from paper, Salmon Journey addresses the cycle of life and death, in a playful and visually engaging material for children and their caregivers, encouraging further discussion and fostering an interest in the natural world.

I started with my mood board. I used images and children's books covers that inspired me. Some of the featured illustrators are Eric Carle, Lois Ehlert and Richard Jones.

My first prototype of my envisioned accordion book. There will be an emphasis on illustrations made of paper (not featured here), as well as a hard cover.

My First attempt at my accordion style spreads. At this point I am figuring out what colours I like, typography placement, and what I actually want to include for my illustrations, the goal being to succinctly represent a salmon lifecycle for children in an engaging way.
